Tim Lyons

Columbia, SC & Raleigh, NC Practice Leader & Partner at Mauldin & Jenkins

Tim is the partner-in-charge of the Columbia and Raleigh Offices and a partner in the Governmental Practice of Mauldin & Jenkins, working with state and local government agencies and educational institutions throughout the Southeast. Services provided to clients include traditional audit and attest engagements, transaction and advisory services, and internal control and process consulting. Tim is also a member of the Firm’s Assurance Committee and Leadership and Career Development Committee.

After graduating from Furman University in 2006, Tim worked in public accounting in Charleston before returning to school for his Masters of Science in Accountancy from College of Charleston. In 2009, Tim joined the Atlanta Office of Mauldin & Jenkins and relocated to the Columbia Office in 2018, taking over as the partner-in-charge in 2020. Tim is licensed as a CPA in both South Carolina and Georgia.

Tim is involved in a variety of state and national organizations – both to support client industries and the community at large. Tim is a graduate of the AICPA’s Leadership Academy (Class of 2012) and is a regular speaker on state / local government topics around the Southeast. In 2020, he accepted a nomination to join the AICPA’s State and Local Government Expert Panel, which focuses on accounting and financial reporting issues for governmental entities throughout the U.S. At the local level, Tim was nominated by the governor to join the board of Children’s Trust of South Carolina, which is the only statewide organization committed to preventing child abuse, neglect and injury.

Tim and his wife, Stacy, live in the Forest Acres area of Columbia with their two boys – E.J. and Andrew.
