Council Makhase Gumede

Council Makhase Gumede has a strong background in safety management. Council Makhase started their career as a Safety Officer at Douglas Colliery in 2001 and was responsible for accident and incident investigations, inspecting work areas and processes, and conducting audits for legal compliance. Council Makhase then moved on to BHP Billiton in 2005, where they served as a Chief Safety Officer. In this role, they acted for the Safety Superintendent and HSE manager, managed safety technicians, and compiled HSE performance presentations. In 2014, they joined Mbuyelo Coal as their Chief Safety Officer. No end dates are provided for their positions at Mbuyelo Coal and BHP Billiton.

Council Makhase Gumede completed a BTECH in Safety Management from UNISA between the years 2003 and 2010. Prior to that, they obtained a National Diploma in Road Freight Transport Management from Rand Afrikaans Universiteit (UJ) from 1998 to 2000.
