Mike McLaughlin is a native Iowan with a strong belief in helping people. As part of everything he does, Mike strives to support his employees and customers to achieve a better way of life.
Through Mike’s leadership, organizational, operational, marketing, and sales skills he has grown McLaughlin Family Companies from 50 employees and $3 million in annual revenues in 1992 to nearly 350 employees with worldwide distribution today. Since joining his father John in the family company in the early ‘90s, Mike has proven his ability to acquire, integrate, and turn companies around with the successful acquisitions of 10 either bankrupt or underperforming entities. It is Mike’s drive and ability to cut costs and streamline production that has outpaced competitors, maximized market share, and driven returns to record highs in each company in their respective industries.
In 2000, Mike was promoted to President to lead a new strategic vision of the Company. He was charged with improving and expanding the product lines and market share of the family’s foundation company, New Way Trucks, both nationally and internationally. By incorporating lean processes, cutting costs, and developing strategic vendor partnerships and other initiatives, Mike has been able to deliver annual revenue growth of 20 percent and has increased New Way’s market share through national account growth and strategic international regions, with joint ventures in China and Mexico. In 2017, he was recognized by the National Waste & Recycling Association as the Member of the Year.
During this same period, Mike has been able to diversify the company from a focus in the solid waste industry to a portfolio of family companies that now include the automotive sales, apparel and promotional, auto parts, and mobile veterinarian and animal control industries. In addition to New Way Trucks and Scranton Manufacturing, the McLaughlin Family Companies now includes New Way Ford, New Way Auto, Fastlane NAPA Auto Parts, Hurricane Motorsports, KPAC Compactors, Bowie, Porta-Vet, and Custom Fiberglass Coaches.
Mike also believes in giving back. He is a strong community supporter and is actively involved as a volunteer and sponsor of over 30 local community and national charitable and non-profit service programs.
In 2015, Mike was given the title of Chief Executive Officer. Together with his brother-in-law, Steve Goetsch, McLaughlin Family Companies Chief Operating Officer, Mike will continue the growth and success of this third-generation family business.
