Gerhard Seifner is a seasoned litigator who uses his considerable experience to skillfully handle various types of civil claims by and against his clients. He navigates the complex issues while negotiating collective bargaining agreements for various private and public sector employers. He is well-versed in all facets of construction litigation, workers’ compensation claims and appeals, employment law, and occupational health and safety (OHS) matter.

As a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Labour & Employment Practice Groups, Gerhard advises employers concerning a broad range of litigation, labor and employment matters. He regularly assists employers in developing strategies and operational practices, and in making court and Labour Board applications during certification applications and strikes and lockouts.

An insightful strategist and effective communicator, Gerhard frequently acts as counsel to employers in arbitration proceedings and labor board hearings at provincial and federal levels. He also represents clients in OHS and Safety Act charges involving fatalities and serious injuries.

Gerhard’s experience extends to efficiently resolving and managing corporate shareholder disputes on behalf of shareholders. Clients appreciate his excellent service, vast knowledge, and responsive communication when helping them navigate these often complicated and contentious matters.

Clients in the North also benefit from Gerhard’s legal acumen. With extensive experience advocating for employers in a broad range of industries across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, he readily undertakes the unique and interesting work he has been retained to perform in the Canadian Arctic.

Before practicing law, Gerhard was a teaching assistant in the Department of History at the University of Alberta from 1978 to 1983 before working for Athabasca University as a tutor in history and labor arbitration from 1983 to 1997. Following his completion of legal studies in 1985, Gerhard joined McLennan Ross as an articling student. Born and raised in Edmonton, he has deep roots in the local community.
