Rod McLennan

Rod is widely regarded as one of Alberta’s most experienced litigators. For decades, he has successfully represented clients in high-exposure disputes at all levels of the Canadian court system.

Rod has earned national recognition for his skilled and ingenious representation in criminal and civil litigation, in both private and public law. A talented strategist and tough advocate, he is known for developing imaginative arguments and presenting them persuasively. Throughout his distinguished career, Rod has participated in many high-profile matters, including several federal and provincial commissions of inquiry, and litigation involving prominent public figures and complex issues. He is also frequently called upon to advise governments with regards to constitutional and litigious matters.

Rod’s broad range of knowledge contributes to his sterling reputation. His diverse background includes working in the business sector, where he developed a keen ability to identify realistic and practical solutions, as well as acting for the Deputy Attorney General for over 30 years, during which time he honed his highly sophisticated legal services.

Despite his many years of practicing law, Rod provides counsel that maintains a fresh perspective. Not one to rely solely on precedent, his thorough assessment of each matter includes analyzing it from multiple viewpoints before charting the best course forward.

In addition to his legal experience, Rod lectured on the topic of advocacy for several years at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law. He also has major commercial exposure in land development in both Canada and the U.S.

He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1974 and was made a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1985.
