Kara Onorato joins MDIC as the Chief Financial Officer. Before coming to MDIC, she has served in many leadership roles over her 23-year career. Most recently she was the CFO for Unity Health Care, Inc. located in Washington, D.C.; where she helped lead the organization through the pandemic to have the most successful financial performance in Unity’s 35-year history. Prior to Unity she was the Chief Financial Officer for DC Healthlink; the District of Columbia’s state-based marketplace for insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Kara has worked primarily in the government and nonprofit sectors but has also served in various roles in the banking and the private health care industry. She received her BS in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University and her MBA from Gannon University and is currently ABD in the pursuit of her PhD in Public Policy and Leadership.
As a transformational leader she has been able to lead organizations through various levels of strategic planning while helping them improve their culture, financial stability, and public image. Ms. Onorato’s passion and desire to help others extends beyond her skilled expertise to many social causes that include access to health care and education; poverty; and civil rights. These passions drive her to serve as a leader in her community both personally and professionally. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, cooking, and travel. In addition, she has dedicated her life’s purpose to being a fierce advocate and fundraiser for cancer research in memory of her daughter, Sonata “Sonny” Greishaw; who lost her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2017 at the age of 20.
