Matthew Dowling

Matthew Dowling, Ph.D. is Chief Scientific Officer and Director of Medcura. Matt completed his graduate work at the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland in May 2010. In 2005, after graduating in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, he was awarded the Fischell Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering for his innovative ideas in drug delivery systems. Matt then co-created the Medcura platform, raising initial grants to develop the technology, which led to being named the Dean’s Doctoral Research Award from the UMD Clark School of Engineering for his work on chitosan-based self-assembled soft materials for use in wound treatment. He has since raised ~$4.0M in grant funding which has, in part, been used to support five FDA clearances, 7 issued US patents and 8 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals.
