In 2015, Waugh returned to the University of Waterloo and completed a Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Electrical Engineering in 2018. Additionally, Waugh obtained a certification in Fundamentals of University Teaching from the Centre for Teaching Excellence at the University of Waterloo in December 2017.
