Bárbara Buades' work experience began in 2005 as a Sailing Instructor and Team Leader at Vela Barcelona. From 2011 to 2012, they worked as a Research Assistant and had a summer internship at ICFO, where they designed and built electronic devices and simulated non-linear light effects. In 2012, they had a Research Internship at Universitat de Barcelona, where they investigated the properties of quantum dots. Also in 2012, they held a Mentoring Fellowship at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where they instructed Mathematics and Physics to undergraduate students. From 2012 to 2013, they worked as a Researcher in Optics and Photonics as a Master's student at Imperial College London, focusing on projects related to spectroscopy and refractive index measurement. Bárbara then joined ICFO as a Ph.D. Student in 2013, conducting research on attoscience and ultrafast optics. During this time, they developed and led experiments on the generation and control of attosecond soft X-ray pulses. Bárbara presented their findings at various national and international conferences and successfully defended their thesis in 2018. From 2018 to present, Bárbara has been the CEO & co-Founder of MEETOPTICS, an AI platform that facilitates the search for optics and photonics products. Additionally, they worked as a Laser Consultant at ProCareLight - Light and Laser Safety Solutions from 2018 to 2019. Bárbara also took on the role of Project Lead at Prenomics from 2018 to 2019, where they implemented personalized solutions based on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Notably, they received recognition and awards for their work, including a prize for a pilot test at the SmartCat Challenge and presenting their project at the SmartCity Congress in 2018.
Bárbara Buades completed their education history as follows. From 2013 to 2018, they attended UPC School (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Photonics and Physics. Their Ph.D. thesis focused on experimental attoscience and ultrafast optics. In 2018 to 2019, they studied at the Project Management Institute (PMI) and completed the Essentials of Project Management program. Prior to their Ph.D., they pursued a Master of Science in Optics and Photonics at Imperial College London from 2012 to 2013. Bárbara began their academic journey by obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Universitat de Barcelona, and subsequently completed a master degree (Licenciatura) in Physics from the same institution from 2007 to 2012.
