Michael Gossing has a wealth of experience in the field of strain engineering. Michael began their career in 2006 as a Research Associate at the University of Notre Dame. In 2014, they moved on to become a Postdoctoral Researcher at Systems and Synthetic Biology, Chalmers University of Technology. During their time there, they were responsible for metabolic engineering of S. cerevisiae for lipid production, fermentation of S. cerevisiae in stirred-tank bioreactors and shake flasks, analysis of fatty acids, lipids, organic acids and amino acids using HPLC and GC, analysis of large-scale transcriptome data using R, and Flow Cytometry & Fluorescence Microscopy. One of their key achievements was the production of cocoa butter-like lipids by metabolic engineering of yeast lipid metabolism. In 2018, they became a Post Doc Fellow at AstraZeneca and, in 2022, they took on the role of Head of Strain Engineering at Melt&Marble.
Michael Gossing attended Bielefeld University from 2003 to 2013, where they earned a Diplom in Biochemie in 2009, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry in 2013.
