Behavioral Health Liaison at Mental Health Cooperative

Bailey Jo Carter, B.A, LMSW has a diverse work experience in the mental health field. They started their career as a Social Work Intern at the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in 2018, where they participated in administrative meetings, co-led group therapy, and organized patient outings. They fulfilled 400 hours of undergraduate level internship requirements in this role.

In 2019, Carter worked as a Pro-Bono Case Manager at Centerstone, providing case management services for clients with state insurance or without insurance coverage. They met with clients on a weekly basis, researched and networked to discover case management resources. They remained in this role until May 2020.

From November 2019 to June 2021, Carter worked at Fleet Feet, where they served as a Customer Service Specialist. In this role, they attended community fits, where vulnerable populations in Nashville were fitted for and provided running shoes for free. They ensured the best possible run-specialty options for a wide range of clientele by utilizing training and personal knowledge. They also practiced customer service skills through constant customer interaction and assistance. Additionally, they took on the role of Social Media Coordinator from February 2020 to June 2021.

In 2020, Carter joined HCA Healthcare as a Psychiatric Social Worker. They led group therapy, assisted with discharge and treatment planning, conducted client assessments, and worked alongside psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers. They fulfilled 600 hours of graduate level internship requirements in this role. They remained in this position until April 2021.

From May 2021 to July 2022, Carter worked as an Intensive Outpatient Program Counselor at Cumberland Heights. In this role, they provided outpatient group and individual therapy to individuals with substance use disorders. They utilized curriculum from a 12-step framework with a focus on relapse prevention, building support, and mental health in recovery. They attended weekly treatment team meetings and supervision with direct and clinical supervisors.

In 2022, Carter joined Nashville Collaborative Counseling Center as a Mental Health Therapist. They provided individual therapy to clients with various mental health needs, with a primary focus on LGBTQIA2S+, transgendered people, religious and cult trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, young adults, and adolescents. They attended LCSW individual and group supervision with colleagues and a clinical supervisor. However, this role ended in January 2023.

Currently, Carter is working at Mental Health Cooperative as a Behavioral Health Liaison, starting in March 2023.

Bailey Jo Carter holds a B.A. in Faith & Social Justice from Belmont University, which they obtained in 2019. During their time at Belmont University from 2016 to 2020, they also pursued a B.S. in Social Work. In 2021, they completed their Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Bailey Jo Carter is a Licensed Master Social Worker, having obtained their license from the National Association of Social Workers in October 2021. Bailey Jo also holds certifications in QPR/CSSRS Suicidality Assessment Administration and Professional Crisis Management, obtained in 2019 and July 2019 respectively. Additionally, Bailey Jo Carter is a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society.
