James Alexander has over 18 years of experience in affordable housing policy and development. James is currently the President of Mercy Housing Southeast at Mercy Housing, where they oversee the development and operation of affordable housing communities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Previously, James served as the Housing Policy and Development Director for the Atlanta BeltLine from January 2007 to December 2017. In this role, they were responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs related to affordable housing, economic development, land use, zoning, transportation, parks and greenspace.
Prior to their work with the Atlanta BeltLine, James was the Affordable Housing Development Project Manager for the Allston Brighton Community Development Corp. from January 2004 to December 2006. There they managed the development of two Low Income Housing Tax Credit developments totaling over 90 units. James also led a Tax Credit development through permanent closing and project closeout.
Earlier in their career, James worked as an Associate at RCLCO from January 2000 to December 2001.
James has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Morehouse College and a Master of Regional Planning from Cornell University.
James Alexander has a Master's Degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor's Degree from Columbia University.
James Alexander reports to Ismael Guerrero, President & CEO. They are on a team with Kate Peterson - SVP, Marketing & Communications, Melissa Clayton - SVP, Portfolio Management, and Joe Rosenblum - General Counsel.
