He is a mechanical engineer with extensive experience in the fields of development, implementation and strategic execution of various multifacet capital intensive mining projects for more than 23 years and has extensive knowledge in the developing of mining projects in challenging social, political and natural environment jurisdictions. His previous appointments include Senior Vice President for Ivanplats, Vice President and Project Director for Ivanhoe Mines, Project Director for Bateman and Project Manager for DRA Global.
He has studied, implemented and completed various mining projects in countries like Botswana, Ghana, Zambia, Madagascar, Democratic Republic of Congo and the highly mechanized underground multibillion dollar Platreef PGM project in South Africa. He has work extensively with interested and affected parties and other stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted development and delivery of mining projects. His interaction with multicultural stakeholders over his career has enhanced his knowledge with regards to environmental, social and government (ESG) impacts facing new mining development projects.
Given his experience and ESG knowledge and critical importance over the years he enrolled towards his Masters in Philosophy (Sustainable Development within the Minerals Resource Sector) through the University of Cape Town. He has also successfully completed a number of managerial, commercial and financial courses, most notably the “Technical & Financial Appraisal of Mineral Projects” at the University of Witwatersrand School of Business in Johannesburg. He appreciates the strategic development of mineral projects, optimising alternative development scenarios by creating maximum shareholder value and economic benefit to all stakeholders.
