Sharmin Akter

Sharmin Akter currently serves as the ELA Department Coordinator and High School English Teacher at MESA Charter High School, with experience teaching various ELA sections since December 2020. Prior to this role, Sharmin worked as a Writing Tutor at Pearson, providing one-on-one instruction across many educational levels and contexts. Previous positions include a Writing Center Tutor at Hunter College, where instruction emphasized the Socratic method and individualized support, and a Literacy Interventionist role with the NYC Department of Education, focusing on tailored reading and writing interventions. Sharmin began teaching as a Student Teacher in 2019, gaining valuable experience in differentiated instruction and classroom management. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Education in Literacy and a Bachelor of Arts in English/Language Arts Teacher Education, both obtained from Hunter College.
