Merril Hotchkin has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several industries and roles. They began their career as a Consultant at Accenture in 1989 before moving on to Creative Informatics Consultancy, where they held various positions including Senior Change and Capability Consultant, Head of People and Finance, and Board Secretary. They then joined AusPerform as a Director from 2004 to 2007. From 2008 to 2009, Merril worked as the National Business Manager / Financial Controller at Corporate Express. They then became the Corporate Services Manager at AG Coombs from 2009 to 2011. Merril then joined Metricon as the Head of People, Performance, and Culture in 2011. In 2020, they became a Board Member at the West of Melbourne Economic Development Alliance (WoMEDA), and in 2022, they joined CREST Education Ltd as a Board Member.

Merril Hotchkin completed their education with a Bachelor of Business from Deakin University in 1988, specializing in Accounting and HR. Before that, they attended Methodist Ladies' College, Kew, where they obtained their HSC, serving as School Captain and House Captain. Later, Merril pursued a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Melbourne in 1993, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Marketing from Monash University, both completed in 2004.
