Steve Reed, Vice President for Information Technology and Institutional Effectiveness, and Chief Information Officer, is responsible for providing vision, leadership and strategic direction for information technology, business intelligence, and university planning at the university. He also provides senior executive leadership to the Information Technology and Institutional Effectiveness division. As a member of the President's Executive Team, Steve contributes to the development and direction of institutional and instructional strategies for the university as a whole. He also is an active partner in efforts to align the university and system-level technology innovations and ensure compliance with system procedures relating to data and information security.
Steve has 20 years of experience in higher education and instructional and information technology. Before joining the university, he served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the University of Wisconsin - River Falls and led IT service management, enterprise IT, information security, and teaching, learning and technologies departments. Steve previously worked at Anoka Ramsey Community College, where he held the roles of CIO, Dean of Educational Services for Online Learning and Information Systems Programs and the Cisco Regional Academy.
Steve has been a member of the community faculty at Metropolitan State University, teaching in the College of Management, and he has taught courses in computer networking at Anoka Ramsey Community College.
Steve holds a B.S. in science from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and an MBA from Metropolitan State University. He currently is pursuing a Ph.D. in organizational leadership and policy development at the University of Minnesota.
