Kim Barnes has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Starting in 1998, they worked as an Assistant General Manager for the Bluefield Orioles. From 2000 to 2003, they served as the Head Cheerleading Coach at Bluefield State College. In 2002, they completed an internship in marketing, management, and specialty leasing at Jones Lang LaSalle.

Moving on to their professional career, Kim held the position of Marketing Director and Specialty Leasing Manager at Colonial Properties Trust from 2003 to 2004. Kim then worked for CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. as a General Manager, overseeing the operations of Randolph Mall and Hanes Mall. From 2005 to 2006, they were a Property Manager at A.J. Dwoskin & Associates, managing numerous retail properties.

Kim's longest tenure was with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, where they held several roles over the years. Kim started as a Contracts Manager in 2006 and progressively took on higher-level positions, including Special Projects in Business Development and Acting Manager of Leasing & Airside Contracts. Since 2019, they have been serving as the Corporate Marketing Director, responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies for Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA). Additionally, Kim is currently a Secretary on the Board of Directors for Loudoun Soccer, starting in 2021.

Kim Barnes completed an MBA in Human Resources Management from Strayer University in 2005-2006. In 2014, they obtained a Certificate in Concessions Management from Airports Council International. Kim also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies with a specialization in Political Science, both from Bluefield State College in 2000-2002. Additionally, Kim transferred from Concord University in 1998 after studying Business Administration. Prior to their higher education, Kim graduated from Graham High School in an unspecified year.
