Ryan Vanleeuwen has over 19 years of work experience in the medical device industry. Ryan started their career as a Product Engineering Co-op at Intertec Systems in 2001. Ryan then joined Stryker Instruments as a Design Engineer in 2005, where they designed Percutaneous Surgical Instruments and worked on Class II RF needles and electrodes. In 2007, they were promoted to Senior Design Engineer at Stryker and continued designing surgical instruments, including Class II Access Needles and Bone Cement (PMMA) mix & delivery system.
In 2009, Vanleeuwen joined Synthes as a Product Development Engineer, where they designed Implants and Instrumentation for Spinal Surgery, with a specific focus on Class III Artificial Discs for spine arthroplasty. Ryan was responsible for various areas, such as metal design and finishing, porous coating, and machinable plastics design. Ryan also handled post-market surveillance and maintenance of Class III spinal discs, including explant analysis and FDA reporting.
Since 2012, Vanleeuwen has been working at Microaire Surgical Instruments. Ryan initially served as the Principal Mechanical Engineer for four years, responsible for designing surgical instruments. In 2016, they were promoted to Director of Product Engineering and was later appointed as the Vice President of Engineering in January 2019.
Ryan Vanleeuwen has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Analytics & Strategic Management from the Villanova School of Business. Prior to their MBA, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a specialization in Biomedical engineering, from Kettering University.
