Iulia Balas

Principal Scientist (analytical Project Manager) at Microbiotica

Iulia Balas has held a number of different roles in the medical and scientific fields. In 2011, they began their career as a Junior Doctor at SCJU. In 2013, they were a Teaching Assistant at 'Ovidius' University, Faculty of Medicine- Genetics and Cell Biology Department. Iulia was responsible for organizing the medical school Genetics and cell biology curriculum and implementing standards of completion. In 2014, they were an M.D. at the Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital. In 2015, they were a Medical Doctor at the Pneumophtisiology Clinical Hospital of Constanta, where they were responsible for the general Microbiology and Epidemiology Department, providing cross-functional oversight of internal assays and projects, team and deliverables. In 2016, they were a Chief Laboratory Doctor at Regina Maria, Reteaua de sanatate, where they had healthcare management experience running all aspects of a complex medical laboratory with a workload of 420 000 tests per year. In 2019, they were an Analytical Scientist at Benchmark Vaccines Limited, where they were responsible for method transfer and training of production and QC staff in analytical methods as required. Currently, they are a Senior Scientist and Research Scientist at Microbiotica, where they are responsible for overseeing tech transfer of drug substances and drug product to a CRO, providing technical expertise as and when required for CMC and Clinical Development, and developing and validating analytical assays for drug product quantification and viability assessment.

Iulia Balas has completed a diverse educational background. Iulia began their education in 1994 at Elementary School 'Gheorghe Titeica'. From 2001 to 2005, they attended National College 'Mircea cel Batran' and studied Mathematics and Physics. Iulia then went on to complete a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at 'Ovidius' University, General Medicine Faculty from 2005 to 2011. Following this, they completed a Laboratory Medicine Residency Program at SCJU Constanta from 2011 to 2015. Most recently, they obtained a Postgraduate degree in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics from Harvard Medical School in 2016-2017.
