Mr. Nitzberg specializes in providing advisory services to the retail real estate industry with a special focus on urban retail projects. He enjoys extensive experience in the major retail markets throughout the country and a successful history advising tenants regarding expansion strategies. He has represented tenants and property owners in over two million square feet of retail projects on North Michigan Avenue, Oak Street, State Street and North/Clybourn markets.
Exclusive tenant clients have included Crate & Barrel, Victoria’s Secret, H&M Hennes & Mauritz, Columbia Sportswear, Apple Computer, Zara, American Girl Place, Virgin Records, Nordstrom Rack, Container Store and Estee Lauder. Currently, Mr. Nitzberg serves as a Board advisor and Investor to Golden Fleece Beverages, the dominant specialty tea beverage concept in the United States, headquartered in Chicago.
Mr. Nitzberg has managed multiple transactions involving North Michigan Avenue locations: 430, 444, 535, 540, 545, 555, 600, 605, 625, 645, 679, 700, 701, 717, 730, 830, 840 and 919 as well as Crate & Barrel, John Hancock Center, Loyola University, Westin Hotel and The Drake Hotel.
Mr. Nitzberg advised Smithfield Properties on retail and residential development including four corner developments on State Street adding 200,000 square feet of new retail vitality to Chicago’s central business district and over 2,000 residential units in Chicago and Phoenix.
Mr. Nitzberg is also recognized for the sale of investment real estate. He has been directly involved in the closing of more than $2.0 billion of retail investment sale transactions, including property on North Michigan Avenue and Oak Street.
Mr. Nitzberg has been a six-time recipient of the Chicago market Retail Broker of the Year award.
Prior to joining Mid-America, he successfully served as Chief Administrative Officer of Crate & Barrel. His accomplishments include the development of the Crate & Barrel flagship stores on Michigan Avenue and Madison Avenue as well as financial and operating advancements.
Mr. Nitzberg’s experience also includes a nine-year career at The First National Bank of Chicago, where he was Division Head of the Retail Industry Lending Division.
Charitable activities include: Board of Directors Metropolitan YMCA of Chicago (Vice Chair; Executive Committee); Board of Directors Magnificent Mile Association (Executive and Administrative committees); Chicago Loop Alliance (Executive Committee); past President of The Magnificent Mile Charitable Foundation and an adjunct Professor at DePaul University MBA Real Estate program.
