Kristel J.

Kristel J. currently serves as a Strategy Manager and Strategy Adviser at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia since November 2021. Previously, Kristel held several positions at the Ministry of the Environment from June 2013 to March 2021, including Head of the Forest Department, where leadership was provided during a period of significant public interest and strategic document compilation. Additional roles included Senior Officer in the Forest Department, focusing on forest ecosystems and health, Senior Officer in the Climate Department related to the EU Emissions Trading System, and a substitute Senior Officer in the Nature Conservation Department, with an emphasis on international genetic resource treaties. Earlier experience as a Researcher and Coordinating Assistant at TalTech involved scientific experimentation and project management linked to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. Kristel's academic background includes a Master's degree in Gene Technology from TalTech, with an incomplete PhD in the same field.
