Malcolm Barratt-Johnson has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical and medical field. Malcolm currently serves as a Non-Executive Director at MirZyme Therapeutics since September 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Medical Adviser at Kingdom Therapeutics Ltd starting from June 2019.
In 2010, Malcolm became the Managing Director of PharmaMedic Consultancy. Malcolm had previously worked in senior roles at Pfizer and AstraZeneca. Malcolm also served as a Medical Assessor in new medicines for the UK Government and as the Lead Medical Assessor for the UK Department of Health's Clinical Trials Unit. Additionally, they worked with the European Commission's Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) on various pharmaceutical projects until 2017.
Malcolm has also held positions as a Non-Executive Director at NovaBiotics Ltd since October 2020 and as a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Medicine at King's College London since November 2019.
Earlier in their career, Malcolm worked as an Associate Partner at Life Science Consulting Partners, LSCP starting from 2007. Malcolm was also a Fellow and Chartered Biologist at The Royal Society of Biology from 2004 onwards.
Malcolm served as the Immediate Past-President of the Section of Pharmaceutical Medicine and Research at The Royal Society of Medicine from September 2012 to October 2014.
Malcolm worked as a Consultant Pharmaceutical Physician and Managing Partner at The BJ Partnership LLP until May 2014. Prior to that, they were a Lead Medical Assessor at The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) from September 2005 to February 2007. During this role, they were responsible for assessing and approving clinical trials and giving lectures on pharmacovigilance and risk: benefit assessment in drug development.
Malcolm Barratt-Johnson began their education with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physiology from King's College London, which they completed between 1983 and 1986. Malcolm then pursued a degree in Medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, University of London, earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS) between 1986 and 1992.
In 2004, Malcolm Barratt-Johnson obtained a professional qualification from the Royal Society of Biology, where they became a Chartered Biologist in Applied Biology, earning the designations FRSB and CBiol. Additionally, in 2015, they became a member of The British Pharmacological Society.
Currently, Malcolm Barratt-Johnson is attending the GMDP Academy, specializing in Pharmaceutical Medicine. Malcolm is pursuing a Global Fellow in Medicines Development (GFMD) degree, which they commenced in 2023.
