Ryan Ries has extensive work experience in various data science and engineering roles. Ryan currently works at Mission Cloud as the Chief Data Science Strategist, where they lead a team in developing data, analytics, machine learning, MLOps, and generative AI strategies for both internal and external customers. Prior to this, they were the Practice Lead/GM Data, Analytics, and Machine Learning at Onica, where they built and managed a successful team of data engineers, data architects, ML engineers, and data scientists. Ryan also has experience at DAQRI as the Chief Engineer, overseeing a global team of engineers and managing the development of innovative hardware products. Ryan started their career as the Principal Data Scientist/Founder of The DataPhile Group, where they specialized in personalized data analytics for businesses. Ryan's background also includes roles at Teledyne Technologies Incorporated and Areté Associates, where they worked on developing advanced imaging systems and algorithms. Ryan began their career as a graduate student at the California Institute of Technology and UCLA, conducting research on nanowire biosensors and two-photon fluorescent microscopy. Overall, Ryan brings a wealth of expertise in data science, engineering, and technology, enabling him to provide strategic leadership and deliver innovative solutions in their current role as Chief Data Science Strategist at Mission Cloud.
Ryan Ries completed their education with a Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry, first at the University of San Diego, where they obtained their B.A. in Physics and Chemistry from 1995 to 1999. Ryan then pursued further study at UCLA from 1999 to 2004, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biophysical Chemistry. Following this, Ryan attended Caltech as a Special Student from 2002 to 2004 to finish their Ph.D. in BioPhysical Chemistry. In addition, they obtained certifications in Statistical Learning in R from Stanford University Open Course in 2014 and AWS Partner: Generative AI Essentials (Business) from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2023.
