Alex Vargas

Alex Vargas, CFA has extensive experience in credit analysis, specializing in the oil and gas sector. Alex has held various roles at different companies, including Mizuho, DBRS Morningstar, and S&P Global Ratings. At Mizuho, they currently serve as a Vice President, managing a portfolio of high yield and investment grade oil and gas credits. Alex conducts comprehensive analysis, including cash flow projections, collateral analysis, and credit memo preparation, and presents credit approval recommendations to senior management. At DBRS Morningstar, they worked as an Assistant Vice President, leading the analysis for mid-sized, high-yield corporations in various sectors. Alex conducted fundamental credit analysis and reviewed legal documentation associated with corporate debt issuances. At S&P Global Ratings, they held multiple roles, including Associate Director and Associate, where they analyzed municipal bonds and maintained a portfolio of high yield corporate issuers in the oil and gas sector. Alex conducted fundamental credit analysis, monitored companies, and recommended rating actions. Additionally, they worked as a Ratings Analyst and Senior Research Assistant, preparing credit analysis and rating presentations for various credits. Alex started their career as an Intern with the City of Dallas in 2011.

Alex Vargas, CFA holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Local Government from the University of North Texas, which they earned from 2010 to 2012. Alex also possesses a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science from The University of Texas at Arlington, awarded from 2004 to 2008. In 2018, Alex obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification from the CFA Institute.
