Federico Montagnani, PhD, has extensive work experience in the field of mechanical engineering. Federico began their career as a Mechanical Engineer at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna from January 2008 to December 2008. In 2010, they worked as a Mechanical Engineer at EDI Progetti e Sviluppo. From November 2006 to December 2011, they owned and worked at Pizzeria Le Mura. In 2011, they returned to Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna as a Mechanical Engineer and Research Fellow, where they focused on architectures design and development of mechanisms/sensors for biomimetic robotic hands. Federico also designed an industrial robot for the "factory 4.0" environment of Piaggio & C spa. From May 2015 to November 2015, they served as a Visiting Research Fellow at TU Delft. In 2017, they joined MASMEC Biomed - MASMEC SpA division as a Specialist, working on product development and business development in the field of navigation systems for surgery and interventional radiology. Currently, they are employed at MMI Srl as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, where they are involved in the mechanical design of a surgical robot for microsurgery. Federico is responsible for robotics, sensors, ergonomics, technical documentation for CE and FDA compliance, and sustaining the manufacturing process.

Federico Montagnani, PhD, obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biorobotics from the Scuola Superiore 'Sant' Anna' di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento, completing their studies between 2013 and 2015. Prior to that, they pursued an MSc in automotive mechanical engineering at the Università di Pisa, with the completion year unspecified. Federico'sundergraduate education in mechanical engineering was also at the Università di Pisa, which they completed by the year 2007, earning a BSc degree.
