Software Engineer at Modern Electron

Kevin Zhu has had a varied work experience since 2015. In 2015, they were a Research Intern at the University of Washington Department of Bioengineering. In 2016, they were a Research Intern at Seattle Children's, where they performed histological stains on brain slices and imaged slices and cells, as well as recorded and analyzed cell proliferation data during neurogenesis. In 2019, they were a Research Associate at Altasciences, where they carried out studies, collected samples and data for preclinical research, and maintained document chains to record equipment used and all observations of subjects and materials used in studies. Also in 2019, they were an Instructor at Computing Kids. Currently, they are a Software Engineer at Modern Electron, where they have developed and led a project to improve experimental data storage and processing, designed a database schema and used AWS RDS for PostgreSQL to host the database, and created a Flask web application and Python API to interact with the database. Additionally, they have updated existing features in old simulation software, Warp, to work with the new WarpX software and has debugged and benchmarked softwares using AWS EC2.

Kevin Zhu attended Interlake High School from 2012 to 2016. Kevin then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Washington from 2016 to 2019. In 2019, they began a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Oregon State University, which they are still pursuing.
