Mark J Laabs has a long and varied career in the clean energy and sustainability sectors. Mark J began their professional career in 2006 as a Consultant for McKinsey & Company, where they estimated capital requirements to capture economical energy efficiency opportunities across sectors, with a particular focus on the United States, Asia, and the Middle East. In 2007, they took on the role of Director for Nourish International, and in 2008, they became the COO and Executive Director of Climate Bridge. In 2010, they co-founded Serial Suppers, and in 2011, they co-founded Slow Food Shanghai. In 2012, they became a Special Advisor for the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program, and in 2013, they became the Chairman of Faro Energy and the Founder and Chairman of the Rare Cancer Research Foundation. Finally, in 2016, they became the Managing Partner of Modern Energy, a holding company for clean energy businesses leading the transition to a net-zero carbon economy.

Mark J Laabs attended White Station High School from 1998 to 2002. Mark J then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2002 to 2006, where they earned a BA in International Studies. During this time, they also attended Duke University.
