Will Shaffner

Director Business Development & Government Relations at MOHELA

Will Shaffner has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Will started their career in 1976 at Walt Disney World as an Outdoor Foods Sales representative. Will then worked at Montgomery Ward as a Salesperson before transitioning to the University of Central Florida, where they worked in the Student Financial Aid Office for eight years.

In 1990, they joined United Student Aid Funds, where they played various roles and helped create and expand the Education Resource Center. Will later transferred to the sales division to sell to a targeted territory before leaving in 1995.

Will then joined USA Funds, where they served as a Sales Manager responsible for a specified sales territory in the Midwest. Will successfully established and surpassed sales goals and objectives for the region.

Will continued their career at USA Group as the Director of the Midwest Region before moving to USA Group Guarantee Services as the Director of the Midwest Region. In 2000, they joined Sallie Mae as the Director of the Central Region.

In 2002, Will joined American Student Assistance as the Director of Lender & Strategic Partnerships, where they expanded the corporate footprint through established relationships and partnerships, exceeding sales goals through targeted alliances.

Will'smost recent position was at MOHELA, where they held the role of Director of Business Development & Government Relations. Will was responsible for all sales and marketing activities surrounding their main channels, schools, and lenders. Will oversaw private student loan origination, servicing, and collections, as well as web, DTC, advertising, public and government relations, marketing, and E-commerce initiatives.

Will Shaffner received their Diploma in General Studies from Cocoa High School in 1979. Will continued their education at Eastern Florida State College, where they earned an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in General Studies from 1979 to 1981. Following this, they attended the UCF College of Business from 1982 to 1988, where they graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a minor in Psychology.
