Eric Tsai has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Eric most recently worked at MongoDB as the Director of Engineering. In this role, they led a team of engineers and was responsible for building and maintaining a control plane system for managing MongoDB clusters on major cloud providers.
Before that, Eric worked at CB Insights as an Engineering Manager. Eric managed a team of backend, frontend, mobile, and test engineers and was in charge of the development of a native mobile application. Eric also introduced SPA health monitoring and improved the blog functionality.
Prior to CB Insights, Eric worked at Grubhub where they held multiple roles including Team Lead, Technical Lead, and Senior Software Engineer. Eric led the upgrade process of the consumer web application, contributed to the tech blog, and improved key performance metrics. Eric also mentored engineers and introduced new technologies and processes.
Eric started their career at AppFirst as a Lead Frontend Engineer and later became a Back End Developer and a Frontend Developer. Eric maintained and developed web servers using the Django Web framework and implemented efficiency improvements. Eric also built an open source widget-based web application.
Before AppFirst, Eric worked at Harris Corporation as a Software Engineer, where they participated in R&D projects and created a Java-based desktop application for RSS analysis.
During their time at Carnegie Mellon University, Eric worked as a Teaching Assistant for Mechatronics, assisting students in problem-solving projects. Eric also served as a Teaching Assistant for Intro to Electrical and Computer Engineering, conducting lab sessions and providing additional help to students.
Eric's early career also includes an internship at the United States Department of Defense, where they developed a GUI Java Applet and analyzed code for reporting purposes.
Throughout their career, Eric has demonstrated strong leadership skills, technical expertise in various programming languages, and a passion for mentoring and improving processes.
Eric Tsai earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University from 2007 to 2010. Eric later pursued their Master of Science in the same field at Carnegie Mellon University from 2010 to 2011.
