James Wood has over 20 years of work experience, starting from their role as a Software Engineer and Technical Support at Drilling Systems (UK) Ltd in 2000. James then worked as an International Sales Executive at British Publishers Ltd in 2006 before moving on to become a Business Development Executive at Datacentience, where they focused on enterprise new business sales for datacenter power and cooling consultancy services and hardware. In 2008, they joined iomart Hosting as a Business Development Manager.
In 2010, James joined NTT Europe Ltd. as a Business Development Manager, where they successfully launched NTT's business into the Nordic market and accelerated customer growth. James held this role until 2016, during which they also served as NTT Europe's Nordic Business Manager.
From 2016 to 2023, James worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in various positions. James started as an Account Manager - Media and Entertainment before progressing to Manager Startup and Game Industry Segment, Nordic & Baltics. In this role, they led a team focused on gaming, FinTech, and venture-backed technology startups. James then became the Head of Digital Native Business, Nordics & Baltics, where they built and led a team to support Nordic startups, scaleups, ISVs, and gaming customers from scratch. After that, they served as the Startup Segment Leader for the Nordic & Baltics region, responsible for AWS' startup business in the area. Their most recent role at AWS was the Leader EMEA North Greenfield - AWS Startups, overseeing AWS' startup greenfield business across EMEA North. Additionally, they were a member of the AWS Nordics Area Leadership team.
Currently, James Wood is the Regional Vice President for the Nordics at MongoDB, a role they have held since 2023.
James Wood pursued their education at various institutions over the years. In 2001, they enrolled at the University of Plymouth, where they studied Sociology and earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. Following this, from 2008 to 2009, James continued their education at The Open University, completing a Professional Certificate in Management. Subsequently, from 2008 to 2010, they pursued a Professional Diploma in Management at The Open University, specializing in Managing Performance and Change.
