Prior to that, Sophie worked again at Monzo Bank as a Senior Web Engineer & Web Discipline Lead. Sophie contributed to the launch of Monzo's first web banking app for business customers and focused on building accessible and scalable web apps using React and Go. Sophie also championed accessibility and provided documentation and training for web engineering.

Sophie's work experience also includes being a Software Engineer at John Lewis Partnership, where they worked on the JohnLewis.com platform, developing both UI and API functionalities using React, Node, and Kotlin. Additionally, they gained experience as a Technology Graduate at John Lewis Partnership, where they worked as a Business Process Analyst and Systems Developer, gaining skills in JavaScript, Java, and Node.js.

Before embarking on their career in technology, Sophie worked at Excel English as an English Teacher, where they taught General English classes to students of various levels.

Sophie Koonin completed their education with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Linguistics from the University of Manchester from 2010 to 2013. Later, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science from Birkbeck, University of London, from 2014 to 2015. In addition to their formal education, they obtained a certification in teaching English as a second language, specifically the CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), from Cambridge in February 2014.
