Joe is a scientist on the Materials team, where he works to fully unlock silk’s transformative potential by understanding and controlling how it assembles at the molecular level.
Passionate about food waste since childhood, Joe feels it’s kismet that he now gets to apply his background in materials chemistry towards preventing food waste at scale. His previous preoccupation was renewable energy, and he worked in academic and commercial labs developing polymers for electrolysis and fuel cells. Before joining Mori, he taught for two years as a visiting assistant professor, where he told stories about innovators using chemistry to tackle the world’s toughest problems. Now, with the innovators at Mori, he does exactly that.
Joe holds a BS and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Boston College, where he worked in the research group of Frank Tsung.
