For the past three decades, Mike Halpern has dedicated his career to transforming and cultivating young minds. Whether in the classroom as a teacher or camp director, education has been at the core of his philosophy. As a child, Halpern spent many summers at camp enjoying the outdoors. At age 15, he got his first job as a lifeguard. He attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and later a Master of Arts degree at New York University. Halpern spent 32 years as a teacher for the NYC Board of Education and later joined MMCC in 1991. It was at MMCC that Halpern brought his love of camp to life. He was instrumental in creating engaging programs that left a significant impact on the lives of his young campers. Halpern’s strong ties with his campers have lasted a lifetime. A few of his former students are now part of his staff. Halpern continues to inspire young people through various afterschool programs and youth initiatives.
