Ryan Lakner began their career in 2017 as a Supplemental Instructor - General Chemistry I & II and Student Research at the Illinois Institute of Technology. In 2019, they became a Science Undergraduate Laboratory Intern at Argonne National Laboratory and worked on a project aimed at improving ion exchange resin materials for use in Electrodeionization (EDI). In 2020, they returned to Argonne National Laboratory as a Science Undergraduate Laboratory Intern and worked remotely on a project to recover valuable organic compounds. Currently, Ryan is a Staff Engineer at Mostardi Platt.

Ryan Lakner began their education in 2012 when they graduated from Prospect High School with a General Studies degree. Ryan then attended the Illinois Institute of Technology from 2016 to 2021, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering. Finally, in March 2022, they obtained an Engineer In Training (EIT) certification from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
