Sumit Raniga has a vast and diverse work experience in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Sumit currently holds the position of Head of Upper Limb Surgery and Therapy at MQ Health since May 2022. Sumit is also a Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon at MQ Health since September 2018.
In addition, Sumit has served as an Associate Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery and the Director of Translational Orthopaedic Research Lab at Macquarie University Hospital since December 2019 and January 2019, respectively.
Sumit has also worked as a Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon at Sydney Adventist Hospital starting March 2021. Previously, they served as an Orthopaedic Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon (Locum VMO) at NSW Health from April 2019 to November 2019.
Sumit has gained valuable experience through various fellowship positions, including the Roth McFarlane (HULC) Upper Extremity Surgery Fellow at Western University from August 2017 to July 2018, the Shoulder & Elbow Fellow at Macquarie University Hospital from July 2016 to June 2017, the Shoulder & Elbow Fellow at the University of Bern from June 2015 to May 2016, and the Shoulder & Elbow Fellow at Canterbury District Health Board from March 2015 to May 2015.
Sumit also briefly worked as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Queensland Health from December 2014 to February 2015.
Sumit's journey in orthopaedic surgery began with an Advance Trainee position at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, where they worked from December 2009 to November 2014, honing their skills and knowledge in the field.
Sumit Raniga received a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University of Otago in 2006. Sumit then pursued a Master of Medical Science (MSc) degree with 1st Class Honours in Molecular Medicine & Neuropharmacology and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physiology & Pharmacology from The University of Auckland. In 2014, they completed their FRACS degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Sumit Raniga has obtained several certifications, including being a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and a Member of various medical associations such as the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia and the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow.
