William Sobel

William Sobel has extensive experience in technology and standards development within the manufacturing sector. Currently serving as the Executive Committee Chair and Chief Architect at the MTConnect Institute since December 2008, Sobel leads the architecture and modeling of the MTConnect standard and oversees the open-source C++ Agent development. As a co-founder of Metalogi and VIMANA, Sobel focuses on advancing manufacturing infrastructure and rethinking manufacturing information. Additional roles include Chair of the Architecture Working Group at the Industrial Ontologies Foundry and Chair of the MBE Use Case & Model Based Standards Development Working Group at ASME. Previous experience includes guest research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and co-chairing the Industrial AI Task Group at the Industrial Internet Consortium. Sobel has also held positions as CTO at LoyalCommerce and as a lecturer at UC Berkeley. Education includes time at Fredonia University.
