Edgar Lobaton has had a varied and successful work experience. In 2000, they were a Teaching Assistant for Proyecto PODER at the Bellevue School District. From 2007 to 2009, they held several positions at UC Berkeley, including Graduate Student Researcher and Graduate Student Instructor, where they taught discussions and some lectures for the "Introduction to Robotics Course" (EEC125) and managed several group projects involving hardware design and programming of microcontrollers. Edgar also served as a Teaching Assistant at the Mathematical Science Research Institute (MSRI) in 2007. In 2009, they were a Summer Intern at Alcatel-Lucent, and from 2009 to 2011, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Most recently, they have been an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University since 2011, and in 2022, they became the Research Director at Murano Corporation.

Edgar Lobaton received their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from Seattle University in 2004. Edgar then went on to the University of California, Berkeley, where they earned their Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in 2009.
