Heather Hutsell defends employers and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation claims in both Kansas and Missouri. She works closely with employer’s and insurance carriers not only in defending claims, but also to educate them on how to reduce the number of claims and minimize their overall exposure.
Ms. Hutsell has experience representing employer’s and insurance carriers in all aspects of litigation and has handled complex claims involving accident, work disability, permanent total disability and occupational exposure. She has prevailed on oral arguments before both the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission and the Kansas Appeals Board, as well as, successfully tried a case before the Missouri Court of Appeals. In addition, Ms. Hutsell often speaks to employers and insurance carriers to educate them on the changing workers’ compensation laws and to provide updates to assist them in preventing and handling workers’ compensation claims.
While at the University of Kansas School of Law, Ms. Hutsell was a Journal of Law and Public Policy staff member and an ambassador to the law school. Prior to joining McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips, she worked as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Judge Steve Leben.
When not working, Ms. Hutsell enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters.
