Nick Schmitt

Nick Schmitt is a Backend Engineer II at MyFitnessPal, starting in December 2022. Prior to this role, they worked at Principal Financial Group from 2015 to 2022. At Principal Financial Group, they held various positions including Java Software Engineer, Data Engineer, and Database Administration Intern. Nick was responsible for building and maintaining Java web apps with frameworks such as Spring and Dust.js, designing ETL processes in Scala and Apache Spark for predictive modeling, collaborating with overseas developers and stakeholders, and providing operational and developer support for distributed technologies. Before joining Principal Financial Group, they worked at Cintas as a Utility & Temp Scholar, where they performed updates to customer records, executed daily vehicle route-loads, and coordinated between drivers and management.

Nick Schmitt completed their Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Computer Science with a focus on Software Development from Indian Hills Community College from 2014 to 2016. Prior to that, they pursued General Education at Missouri State University from 2013 to 2014. In addition to their formal education, Nick earned the certification of MTA: HTML5 Application Development Fundamentals from Microsoft in November 2016.
