Rebecca Mzengi Corey

Rebecca Yeong Ae Mzengi Corey is an accomplished arts and cultural leader with extensive experience in non-profit management and community engagement. As Managing Director of Open Source Gallery from August 2023 to May 2024, Rebecca contributed to the intersection of art and community inspired by the open-source movement. Previously, as Executive Director of Nafasi Art Space from April 2016 to February 2024, Rebecca led initiatives such as establishing the Nafasi Academy for Contemporary Art, creating funding programs for artists, and securing significant financial support for the organization. Rebecca also founded the Tanzania Heritage Project to promote and preserve Tanzanian music and culture and served as Strategic Development Consultant for Santuri East Africa, fostering East African underground music. Additional leadership roles include Managing Director at Busara Promotions and various positions with Kiva and Rotary International. Rebecca holds an M.A. in Development Studies from the University of Dar es Salaam and a B.A. in English and Anthropology from The University of Georgia.
