Ilana Brownstein

Creative Community Fellow — 2019 New England Cohort at NAS

Ilana Brownstein is a prominent figure in the theatre community, currently serving as Co-Leader and Director of New Work at Company One Theatre since January 2010. In this role, Ilana is a key member of the senior management team, focusing on programming, systemic problem-solving, and funder connections. As head of the dramaturgy department, Ilana mentors junior staff and manages new play activities. Additional contributions include creative producing and community enrichment through partnerships in Boston. Ilana's extensive experience includes roles as a Creative Community Fellow with NAS, Workshop Facilitator for the American Theatre Critics Association, and Full Time Lecturer at Boston University. Ilana also founded Playwrights' Commons and served as Literary Manager & Dramaturg at Huntington Theatre Company, where significant programs like the Huntington Playwriting Fellows were developed. Ilana holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy & Dramatic Criticism from Yale University.
