Michael Barnett has extensive work experience in the field of lighting design. Michael is currently the Interim Chair of the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Mississippi, where they also serve as the Chair of the Department of Theatre & Film and Professor of Lighting Design. Michael has been with the university since 2007 and is responsible for heading the BFA Lighting Design Program. Additionally, Michael has served as the Past Chair of the Faculty Senate and has been involved in various research and development programs.
Outside of their work at the University of Mississippi, Michael has also worked as a Lighting Designer for various theater companies and festivals. Michael has been a Lighting Designer at the Nashville Repertory Theatre since 2008 and has designed for several productions. Michael Barnett earned their Bachelor of Arts degree in College Scholars from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, which they attended from 1997 to 2001. Michael then went on to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design at Florida State University from 2001 to 2003.
