Balu Balagopal

Balu is the co-founder and CEO of Nat G® CNG Solutions. He has 30 years of experience in the energy, industrial and technology sectors — with functional skills in marketing, business development, performance improvement, strategy, M&A and finance. Prior to co-founding Nat G, Balu was a senior partner of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he was an integral part of their 10-fold growth into a global firm. He led BCG’s expansion into new geographies, helped triple their energy practice and co-founded their alternate energy and sustainability practices.Balu also served as a senior executive of El Paso Corp. He helped start and was the chief commercial officer of El Paso Global Networks, a metro telecom business that was later sold to a private equity firm. He was a member of the top leadership team for El Paso Merchant Energy, where he led a 100-person group with line responsibility for execution of numerous investment & commercial deals in oil, natural gas, LNG and power. He began his career as a chemical engineer at Union Carbide — now part of the Dow Chemical Company. He holds an MBA with distinction from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, a master of science from Auburn University and bachelor of technology from the Indian Institute of Technology. He has lived and worked in the U.S., U.K., Brazil, India, continental Europe, Scandinavia, Turkey, the Middle-East, China and Australia — and speaks Portuguese and two Indian languages.
