Coastal Louisiana Project Manager And Wildlife Sanctuary Manager at National Audubon Society

Karen Westphal has a diverse work experience in the field of coastal science and environmental research. Karen started their career as a Research Associate and Coastal Scientist at Louisiana State University in 1978, where they worked for nearly 30 years. In 2007, they joined the Pontchartrain Institute for Environmental Sciences as a Research Associate and Coastal Scientist until 2009. In the same year, Karen began their role at the National Audubon Society as the Coastal Louisiana Project Manager and Wildlife Sanctuary Manager. Recently, they transitioned to Acting Sanctuary Manager for Audubon's Paul J. Rainey Wildlife Sanctuary. Additionally, Karen has also worked as a sole proprietor consultant under their own name since 1974.

Karen Westphal studied Zoology at Louisiana State University from 1974 to 1978. Karen obtained a degree in Zoology during this time. In 2019, they became a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager in Marshland from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry. Then, in 2020, they obtained a Remote Pilot license from the Federal Aviation Administration.
