Reed Sims

Reed Sims is a resource conservationist at the National Older Worker Career Center, Inc. (NOWCC) since October 2020, focusing on Geographic Information Systems and mentoring in spatial data improvement after a 33-year career at the USDA-NRCS. At USDA-NRCS, Reed served as a GIS Specialist, utilizing GIS modeling to enhance resource allocation and reduce environmental pollution, and also provided assistance as a Pacific Islands Soil Scientist to local partners. Additionally, as a Soil Scientist and GIS Specialist, Reed taught GIS methodologies nationally. Reed began the career as a Soil Mapper at USDA-Soil Conservation Service, where significant contributions included soil mapping in Montana and transitioning to a new computing environment. Academic qualifications include a Master's Degree in Soil Science and two Bachelor's Degrees in Wildlife, Fish and Wildlands Science and Management and Aquatic Biology from Montana State University-Bozeman and UC Santa Barbara, respectively.
