Barbara Martinez

Director, Science (land) at National Geographic Society

Barbara Martinez is currently serving as the Director of Science (Land) at National Geographic Society since July 2022. Prior to this role, Barbara was the Open Innovation Director at ConservationXLabs where Barbara designed and managed the Microfiber Innovation Challenge. Barbara has a strong background in conservation biology, with experience at organizations such as the US Environmental Protection Agency, where Barbara worked as a Conservation Biologist and post-doctoral fellow, and at the US Geological Survey as a Science & Technology Policy Fellow. Barbara also held a Science and Technology Policy Fellow position at the Environmental Protection Agency. Barbara's research interests include ecological assessments, wildlife populations, and environmental health. Barbara holds a PhD in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota and a BS in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
