Matt Schaefer

Matt Schaefer is an experienced media and archival professional currently serving as a Senior Media Administrator at National Geographic since January 2015. In this role, responsibilities include restoring, archiving, and maintaining various media formats while organizing digital and physical media libraries. Prior experience includes serving as an Archive Coordinator, where significant achievements involved migrating 140,000 video files and creating robust metadata for National Geographic’s video collection. Earlier positions include Assistant Digital Archivist at Duke University, where Matt preserved at-risk data, and various roles in customer service and program management. Matt holds a Master’s degree in Library Science from NC Central University and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
