Joseph Terwilliger is a distinguished academic and musician with extensive experience in neurobiology, genetics, and brass performance. Employed at Columbia University since 1987, Joseph holds the position of Professor of Neurobiology and is affiliated with the Psychiatry, Genetics and Development departments, as well as the Sergievsky Center. Joseph also serves as a Research Scientist V at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and as a Leading Expert at the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). Additionally, Joseph is an active tuba player with FilmHarmonic Brass, a septet focused on film music, and has freelance experience dating back to 1980. Educated at prestigious institutions, Joseph earned a Bachelor of Music in Tuba Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and completed a Ph.D. in Human Genetics and Development at Columbia University. Further qualifications include a postdoctoral degree in Statistical Genetics from the University of Oxford.
