Robert Thompson

Robert Thompson possesses extensive experience in forensic science, currently serving as a NIST Forensic Science Research Associate and Senior Forensic Science Research Manager at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) since September 2008. Prior to this, Robert worked as a Senior Firearms and Toolmark Examiner at the ATF Forensic Science Laboratory from October 1994 to October 2008, conducting firearm examinations and serving as an expert witness. Additional experience includes roles as Criminalist III with the Oregon State Police Forensic Lab and Criminalistics Technologist with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department Forensic Science Laboratory. Education includes a Master of Forensic Sciences from The George Washington University and graduate studies in serology and biochemistry from the University of Virginia. Robert's training also encompasses advanced studies in DNA analysis at the FBI Quantico and human genetics at Portland State University.
