Cory Nelson

Cory Nelson is an experienced professional in law enforcement and executive protection, currently serving as an Executive Protection Agent at American Family Insurance since July 2023. Nelson has a diverse background that includes roles such as Project on American Justice at CNA Corporation and Executive Fellow at the National Policing Institute. As a Captain with the Madison Wisconsin Police Department since January 2017, Nelson has held various leadership positions, including Lieutenant in both the Investigative Services and Professional Standards divisions, and has extensive experience as a Police Detective specializing in narcotics. Additional roles encompass contributions as a Subject Matter Expert at TASC-CHJ and part-time faculty at Madison Area Technical College. Nelson holds a WI Certified Public Manager designation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, complemented by training from the WI Department of Justice’s Command College.
